Building Self-Esteem in Recovery

We gain self-esteem by doing admirable acts. When we get sober most of us are used to having little to no self esteem left. We had been defeated by the years of destruction and pain that our drinking and drug addiction had caused us and others. Most of could not imagine getting to the place where we were able to love ourselves again. Most of us were stuck in a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body and did not know how to get out until we started the addiction recovery process, got alcohol addiction help, and got sober.

New Start in Recovery

Over time we begin to right our wrongs and clean up the wreckage of our past. We begin to get honest with ourselves and others, and we become happy and usefully whole once again. We can begin to hold our heads up and look people in the eyes. We can begin to carry ourselves with dignity and grace. Others begin to see the change in us and we become the type of people that others can depend on. If we are willing to do the work on ourselves, trust in God, clean house, and work with others, we will be able to feel good about ourselves and our actions. We are all finite fallible human beings. There will be times when we fall short. That is to be expected. All we can do is move forward and continue trying to do the best we can do.

Dealing With Other Addictions In Recovery

Dealing With Multiple Addictions While in Recovery "One down, one hundred more to go!" Sometimes it can feel that way when we are dealing with addictions. While we may be sober from one substance a whole new list of addictions may come up for us even after going to alcohol centers, AA, or other forms of detox. Regardless of what comes up Above It All Treatment can help. From addictions to food, shopping, sex, love, drugs, smoking, cleaning, co-dependency, to drinking, the tools we are given can help us overcome any addiction. There is help for just about anything.  Once we get sober we no longer have to go through anything alone ever again. There is a whole support system and fellowship of friends that we have available to us through recovery. There are principles and tools to help us overcome our addictions and we do not have to go it alone. While it's not easy to battle more than one addiction at a time you can do it if you just take the right action.  We are now able to see clearly and notice unhealthy behaviors when they come up. Recovery is a daily battle but well worth it. With the many tools and sources we now have available to us, we can achieve a happy healthy sober life. If we continue to work on ourselves and grow we no longer need to be a slave to addiction. We can finally be free from the bondage of self and go on to live a healthy, happy, and grounded life.

Staying Sober During Travel

Traveling in SobrietyTraveling can be stressful. Depending on where and why we are going we need to plan accordingly. If we know we will be traveling for a long period of time it is vital that you make plans prior to leaving such as finding meetings in every place that you may be stopping at or visiting, calling your sponsor to discuss any feelings you may encounter along the way,  checking in while you are away, reaching out to fellow sober friends who may  be able to inform you about where good meetings may be, asking a sober friend to travel with you depending on what your reasons for traveling are, and just staying connected when it gets to be too much. There are plenty of options available to keep you safe and sober along the way. One of the many gifts of going through alcohol detox, AA, or AIA and getting sober is that we are now able to have a life and truly live. Thanks to the tools addiction recovery has to offer, you can begin to thoroughly enjoy life and embark on many adventures without the fear of a relapse. Life is in session and we got sober to enjoy life.  With the tools that we have been armed with we can go anywhere and do anything.

Hitting the Bottom

Hitting the bottom and looking up gives us faithWe all come from different walks of life. Prior to receiving addiction treatment your rock bottom might have been different from somebody else’s but at the end of the day we all hit the bottom at some point. It's how we handle this that defines us. While you may have the idea that the day you decided to get sober was your low we often find that even in sobriety we can still hit an emotional bottom. Our problems do not just vanish when we stop using and go to alcohol programs, AA, or Above It All Treatment. However, our lives do drastically improve. We now know that drinking was only a symptom and was used to lubricate the emotions we felt that we were trying to mask. Now that we are sober we must use the tools we have been taught. Doing the work we need to do in order to stay sober along with using the tools we are given along the way is very important for our quality of sobriety. There will be ups and downs along the way but we do not have to drink or use no matter what the circumstances are. We no longer need to drown our sorrows. Instead, we are able to cope with the fact that there are going to be times when we are uncomfortable by being aware that this too shall pass, we no longer have to go through anything alone, and we can be rest assured that there is someone else out there that has gone through the same things and have managed to stay sober through it all.  Now that’s a comforting feeling.

Temptation in Addiction Recovery

Temptation... When we first receive alcohol detox alcohol programs you will be armed with the tools needed to have a good time without relapsing. Thanks to this program one now knows that there are steps to take to ensure you will enjoy yourself safely, such as calling your sponsor to discuss the events that are about to take place, praying or meditating upon what course of action you should take, enlisting a fellow sober friend to accompany you, and taking up a meeting prior to the engagement. You may even find that depending of the stage of your recovery you may have to graciously decline the invitation, do not be discouraged with time and working the steps this can very well change. We must remember life is and always will be in session and obstacles will always be thrown your way but having a strong program and fellowship will aide in your recovery. With the right course of action you can enjoy a boys night in Vegas or that casino bachelorette party and have the benefit of waking up the next morning with all the great memories.
,and get sober it can feel like a challenge at times but it also has its rewards. The more we stay sober the more invitations we are likely to get. You may be invited to things such as coffee, movies, and a party weekend in Vegas, a wedding, or a bachelorette party. You may find yourself at a venue or event where there will be drinking. No one is saying you can’t join the party. Through the help of Above It All At Lake Arrowhead, AA, or other
