Who am I? This is a question we may ask ourselves prior to receiving
alcohol detox
as well as when we are first getting sober. The person we once were is now
transforming into a sober, responsible member of society. Discovering who you
are and what your likes and dislikes may be is a vital part of your recovery.
Don’t beat yourself up if you’re having a hard time with the changing and
growing process. While fun once may have been drinking, these days you may find
you would rather have a night in with a good movie or book. Through going to Above It All, working a strong
program, and doing the steps, you are given the tools to discover more about who
you truly are and given the ability to discard the parts of your former self
that are no longer healthy or useful. The longer you stay sober the more things
you discover. Do not be surprised if more than your thinking changes. You may
find that your style of clothing, music, and even social settings may change. This
is a good thing. It means you are discovering who you really are and now you
have the tools to finally be true to yourself now that you have gone through detox and
achieved sobriety. When we get sober we get to finally figure out what we are
about, what is important to us, and what we want to do with our lives. While it
may seem scary at first it is one of those times in our lives that many of us
look back on with joy and gratitude.
